Is It Right for You?
We'd rather be straight with you now than have it be a surprise later.
You'll love it if…
- You're a family or a group of friends — real-home comfort, not a staged rental.
- You're bringing a dog — any size, any number, as long as they're house-trained. The yard isn't fenced.
- You want genuine quiet. Birds, trees, and the occasional rustle are the soundtrack.
- You're an outdoor type — hiking the Gunks, biking the rail trail, or paddling the Wallkill.
- You want to ski a few mountains in one trip — Belleayre, Hunter, Windham, Plattekill, and smaller hills are all drivable.
- You want to work from the country. WiFi is solid; two of us regularly take Zoom calls at the same time.
- You're a group up to 10. Three bedrooms sleep 6; the den has beds for the rest.
- You want a quiet retreat. Works just as well for couples or solo travelers as for families.
Maybe not for you if…
- You want luxury. This is a loved, lived-in family home — cozy, not hotel-fancy.
- You need everything pristine. Real families stay here; you'll see signs of life.
- You're looking to party hard. Quiet hours, no events, neighbors around.
- You have an active toddler. No baby-proofing, stairs, and an unfenced pond. Infants and older kids do fine; it's the "all-ability, no-sense" stage that gives us pause.
- You can't get a car. You can taxi in from Poughkeepsie or Beacon once, but you'll need wheels to leave.
Good to know before you book
- A car is essentially required. Taxi in from Poughkeepsie or Beacon works one way. Once here, biking to Gardiner or New Paltz is realistic for day outings.
- WiFi is solid; cell signal is spotty. Lean on WiFi for calls and navigation.
- Summer brings bugs and ticks. Bring repellent — this is genuine upstate.
- The yard isn't fenced. Dogs are welcome; just stay mindful.
- Minimum stay: 2 nights.
